Ha Noi, 2nd August 2021 – Viet Nam received today 1,188,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX Facility, bringing the total donations to the country to 8,681,300 doses. Among 8,681,300 doses of COVID-19 vaccines delivered to Viet Nam through the COVAX Facility, 5,000,100 doses are Moderna vaccine from the US Government and 3,681,200 doses are AstraZeneca. The COVAX Facility is co-led by the World Health Organization (WHO), Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness and Innovations (CEPI), GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, and UNICEF as the key delivery partner. To date, over 6.4 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Viet Nam, among them 659,064 second doses. The additional vaccines will help the Ministry of Health to expand coverage and reach more people from priority groups, contributing to attaining the country’s target of vaccinating more than 70 per cent of population by the end of the first quarter of 2022. El Perú recibió hoy 101,760 dosis de la vacuna AstraZeneca contra la COVID-19 donadas por el Gobierno de España a través del Mecanismo COVAX que lideran UNICEF, la OPS y la OMS para un acceso equitativo mundial a las vacunas contra la COVID-19.

Conforme lo anunció el presidente del Ejecutivo español, Pedro Sánchez, durante la XXVII Cumbre Iberoamericana de Andorra en abril pasado, España donará a los países latinoamericanos 7. 5 millones de dosis para apoyar los programas nacionales de vacunación.

A la ceremonia de recibo en el aeropuerto Jorge Chávez de Lima, asistieron Bernardo Ostos, viceministro de Prestaciones y Aseguramiento en Salud; Gonzalo Quintero, ministro consejero de la embajada de España en Lima y Laura Salamanca, representante adjunta de UNICEF Perú.

Tras la ceremonia, Laura Salamanca agradeció a las autoridades españolas por la donación de las vacunas y señaló que los esfuerzos de COVAX y la contribución de países como España demuestra que es posible una respuesta global equitativa para que millones de personas puedan acceder a las vacunas a tiempo.

Con la llegada de este lote, a la fecha el Perú ha recibido 1.716.150 dosis a través de esta iniciativa de colaboración, que también lideran la Coalición para la Promoción de Innovaciones en pro de la Preparación ante las Epidemias (CEPI) y la Alianza Mundial para las Vacunas e Inmunización (Gavi), con el apoyo de la Unión Europea.

De acuerdo con el Ministerio español de Sanidad, las primeras 755,040 dosis han sido enviadas al Perú, Paraguay, Guatemala, Ecuador y Nicaragua.
